Interior CS Kithure Kindiki has ordered the transfer of all local security heads on both sides of the Kisumu-Kericho border, as well as other security and public officers whose effectiveness, impartiality, or competence is deemed to have contributed to the success of criminals in Sondu Town and its environs.

This directive comes in the wake of escalating violent crime in the area, which has resulted in loss of lives, destruction of property, and a severe breach of civil order over the past two days.

Kindiki issued a statement on Thursday evening announcing the security changes as the death toll from the Sondu town clashes has risen to 6.

"It has been decided to transfer all local security heads on both sides of the border and other security and public officers whose want of effectiveness, impartiality and/or competence is deemed to have resulted in the success of the criminals," the statement read.

The decision to transfer security personnel is part of a comprehensive strategy to address the security challenges facing Sondu Town and its surroundings.

CS Kindiki made this announcement alongside the deployment of specialist security personnel to the troubled region, with the joint supervision of the Rift Valley and Nyanza regional security teams.

These teams have been tasked with the urgent mission of restoring normalcy and ensuring the arrest and prosecution of all individuals responsible for the horrific crimes that have shaken the community.

"This evening, the Government has deployed a contingent of specialist security personnel to contain the escalation of violent crime in Sondu Town and its environs," declared CS Kindiki, highlighting the severity of the crisis.

"Lives have been lost, property destroyed, and civil order grossly undermined during the past two days."

As part of these efforts, additional measures to contain the situation and suppress further crime may be announced on Friday after a thorough need assessment and review of the efficacy of the measures implemented this evening.
