Detectives from Nairobi and Kilindini have successfully recovered a shipment of assorted cooking appliances, valued at over Sh10 million, which had been stolen while on transit from the port of Mombasa to Malindi.

The recovery operation took place on Friday in the Saika area within Nairobi County, and one suspect, Francis Victor Karua Gathii, is now in custody assisting with investigations.

The incident unfolded when the consignee reported the disappearance of the goods at Kilindini Police Station.

The consignee alleged that the delivery truck had purportedly encountered mechanical problems at Kikambala, along the bustling Mombasa-Malindi highway.

This claim raised suspicions, prompting a thorough investigation into the matter.

The joint team of detectives, drawn from Nairobi and Kilindini, began their probe, leading them to Saika, located off Kangundo.

It was in this area that they uncovered the stolen shipment of cooking appliances.

The recovered goods, worth a substantial sum, are believed to have been diverted from their original route by the driver, in collusion with others.

The authorities suspect a well-organized theft operation behind the incident.

Gathii, one of the individuals allegedly involved in the theft, was apprehended during the operation.

He is now in police custody, assisting detectives in piecing together the details of the theft and the individuals involved.

This successful operation to recover the stolen cooking appliances was spearheaded by the elite Crime Research & Intelligence Bureau, based in Nairobi Area.

Investigations into the theft are ongoing, with authorities determined to bring all those involved to justice.
