President William Ruto has appointed Charles Owino Wahong'o as the new Chairperson of the Council for the Kenya Institute of Mass Communication (KIMC).

The announcement, made through Gazette Notice No. 13094, signifies a significant change in the leadership of the institution.

The appointment, made under the powers conferred by section 7 (3) of the State Corporations Act, took effect from Friday and will extend until October 5, 2024.

"IN EXERCISE of the powers conferred by section 7 (3) of the State Corporations Act, I, William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces, appoint—CHARLES OWINO WAHONG'O to be the Chairperson of the Council to the Kenya Institute of Mass Communication, with effect from the 29th September 2023 up to the 5th October 2024," the gazette notice read.

This decision also marks the revocation of the appointment of Kathleen Openda, the previous Chairperson.

"The appointment* of Kathleen Openda is revoked," the notice further read.

KIMC is a prestigious institution dedicated to the development and promotion of communication skills and professionalism in Kenya's media industry.
