Community leaders in Kirinyaga County have demanded that immediate action be taken against those found culpable in the vandalism of development projects in the county.

Led by Kamiigua Smart Women group chairwoman Leah Nyaguthii, the leaders claimed politics was hampering access by the public to projects executed using taxpayers’ money.

This comes after Kirinyaga Woman Rep Jane Maina was attacked by goons at Mukandu-ini Water Project in Kanyeki-ini ward, Kerugoya Central Constituency on Tuesday leaving the infrastructure destroyed.

Nyaguthii noted that such violent incidences involving goons destroy development projects and, in the process, undermine right of residents to access to services and amenities.

They are now demanding that the police investigate the recent incident and ensure that those found culpable be prosecuted and made to pay to restore the destroyed projects.

“Kirinyaga County has in the recent years experienced transformation in various development sectors and we cannot allow a few individuals to destroy the gains we have so far made,” said Jane Magondu, a community leader from Kangai Ward.

“We cannot allow people to come and destabilize our development agenda,” added Mary Wakathare from Kangai Ward as thy vowed to protect county projects in their ward.

They defended Governor Anne Waiguru against claims of involvement in the chaos that saw the Woman Rep attacked and injured by goons in Kerugoya Town leaving her hospitalised.
