President William Ruto is set to inaugurate a groundbreaking housing initiative in Bahati Constituency, Nakuru County, in an effort to underscore the government's commitment to improving the living conditions of all Kenyans.

The project, which will see the construction of 220 housing units on a 10-acre parcel of land, is a pivotal component of President Ruto's Affordable Housing Program.

Scheduled for Tuesday evening, the launch of this extensive housing project marks a significant stride towards the realization of the government's vision to develop 200 housing units in each constituency throughout the country.

The grand initiative, driven by Kenya Kwanza administration's Affordable Housing Program, envisions the construction of homes that cater to varying needs and family sizes.

The Sh505 Million endeavour will encompass a diverse range of housing units, including 60 studio apartments, 20 one-bedroom units, 120 two-bedroom units, and 20 three-bedroom units.

In addition to the housing units, the project encompasses vital infrastructural enhancements. These encompass the expansion of the existing sewer and water network, power connections, and improved road access to the construction site.

Complementing the residential facilities, the project includes a host of essential social amenities aimed at fostering community well-being.

These encompass a social hall for communal gatherings, recreational spaces for leisure activities, a commercial area for local entrepreneurship, and a tree nursery to contribute to the environmental sustainability of the area.

This momentous event follows a comparable inauguration in Gichugu constituency, Kirinyaga County, where the government reiterates its commitment to provide affordable and dignified housing opportunities for all Kenyan citizens, irrespective of their socio-economic status.

State Department for Housing and Urban Development PS Charles Hinga underlines that the Affordable Housing Program extends beyond the confines of Nairobi County, justifying the decision to extend the project to various constituencies.

As the government furthers its engagement with the housing sector, it has already awarded 17 contracts in the initial phase of development and has publicly announced an additional 35 contracts for the subsequent phase.

The launch of the Bahati constituency housing program serves as a multifaceted opportunity for local employment and economic growth.

PS Charles Hinga says the initiative will create jobs for approximately 500 youth, women, and enterprises in the construction sector, providing a substantial boost to the Jua Kali sector and related industries.

Looking ahead, the government has ambitious plans to construct approximately 30,000 housing units to accommodate police personnel and an impressive 214,000 housing units to cater to the needs of university students.

These initiatives collectively exemplify the government's unwavering dedication to uplift citizens' quality of life through comprehensive and inclusive housing solutions.
