Three individuals were apprehended by detectives on Friday in Emali, Makueni County, following the recovery of a consignment of data cables believed to have been vandalized.

The cables, which belong to the prominent mobile communications service provider Safaricom, were intercepted in a Toyota Probox on the Nairobi-Mombasa highway, en route to the black market.

The incident came to light when a vigilant guard filed a report at the Emali police post, noting the vandalism of the cables along the Simba Cement area.

This swift report prompted a rapid response from the detectives, leading to the interception of the motor vehicle carrying the stolen cables. The recovered evidence is crucial in unravelling the extent of the cable theft.

The three suspects in custody have been identified as Cosmas Mutuku, Dominic Bosire, and Mulwa Nguthu, the driver of the vehicle.

They are currently undergoing thorough questioning, as detectives work to extract more details about the scope of their trade in stolen cables.

The suspects are scheduled to be arraigned in court on Monday to face charges related to the cable theft.

The incident underscores the ongoing challenge of cable theft, which not only disrupts vital communication services but also poses significant financial losses for service providers.

Safaricom, as a major player in the telecommunications industry, has been affected by such thefts in the past, leading to concerted efforts to combat this form of criminal activity.

The collaboration between the vigilant guard, local law enforcement, and the dedicated efforts of the detectives highlights the importance of community involvement in curbing such crimes.

The recovery of the stolen cables is a significant step towards ensuring the continued reliability of communication networks in the region.
