The Pharmacy and Poisons Board (PPB) issued a stern warning to the general public against the usage of "Yoni Pearls" or vaginal detox pearls, herbal tampons, cleansing pearls, and vaginal pearls.

The board disclosed through a statement issued on Friday that these products have not been registered or authorized for use in Kenya as mandated by the Pharmacy and Poisons Act (Cap 244).

Consequently, their usage poses potential public health risks due to the inability of the PPB to ascertain their quality, safety, or efficacy.

"The Pharmacy and Poisons Board (PPB) wishes to advise the general public against the use of a product known as "Yoni Pearls", which may also be referred to as vaginal detox pearls, herbal tampons, cleansing pearls, or vaginal pearls," PPB statement read.

"The PPB notifies the public that "Yoni Pearls" is neither registered nor authorized for use in Kenya as required under the Pharmacy and Poisons Act (Cap 244). Therefore, their usage poses potential public health risks as the PPB cannot guarantee their quality, safety or efficacy."

The absence of registration for the "Yoni Pearls" indicates that they have not undergone the necessary evaluation and approval processes, raising concerns about their safety and effectiveness.

Dr. Fred Moin. Siyoi, the Chief Executive Officer of the PPB, strongly urged the public and healthcare providers to steer clear of "Yoni Pearls" and any other unregistered products making similar claims.

The board maintains that the distribution, supply, sale, or usage of such products is in direct violation of the law and could jeopardize public health.

The PPB's cautionary announcement comes as part of its commitment to safeguarding the well-being of Kenyan citizens.

In the same breath, the board encouraged members of the public to report all fishy health products or technologies.

"Members of the public and healthcare providers are urged to report all suspicious health products and technologies to the Board," the board said.

This regulatory framework exists to prevent the proliferation of untested and potentially harmful products.

The Pharmacy and Poisons Board serves as the regulatory authority responsible for overseeing the registration and authorization of all pharmaceutical products and medical devices in Kenya.
