Over 15,000 residents of Mbooni East in Makueni County, Kenya, are set to receive improved maternal and child health services with the inauguration of a newly constructed Maternal and Child Health Unit at Tawa sub-County Hospital.

This significant development is the result of a collaborative effort between the M-PESA Foundation and the county government, with the Foundation investing Sh27 million in the project and the government equipping the facility at a cost of Sh4.8 million.

The establishment of this health facility is expected to play a crucial role in reducing referrals and bringing healthcare services closer to the residents of Mbooni sub-County, ultimately contributing to the reduction of maternal and child health mortality.

Nicholas Nganga, the Chairman of M-PESA Foundation, emphasized the organization's commitment to combating maternal and infant mortality.

 "In our efforts to curb maternal and infant mortality, the M-PESA Foundation has partnered with several counties to enhance service delivery. That is why we have intervened here in Makueni County to bring services closer to the people and transform as many lives as possible," he stated.

The M-PESA Foundation has been actively involved in various maternal health projects across the country.

They currently have ongoing projects at Ndhiwa sub-County Hospital in Homa Bay, Makwa Dispensary in Kiambu, Talek Community Hospital in Narok, and Brase Clinic in Migori County.

These initiatives reflect their commitment to improving healthcare accessibility and ensuring the well-being of mothers and children in different regions.

In addition to their efforts in Makueni County, the M-PESA Foundation also collaborated with Zuri Health and Lion First Sight Eye Hospital in Machakos County.

Together, they conducted a medical camp, providing essential health services to over 2,000 people. As part of this program, patients from the medical camp will receive free follow-up consultations for up to six months via SMS and WhatsApp.

By sending the word "ZURI" to 40815, users can access medical advice from doctors. They can also add up to three dependents who will receive the same benefit.

With these initiatives, the M-PESA Foundation continues to make strides in enhancing healthcare accessibility and delivering vital services to underserved communities.
