The National Assembly Committee on Diaspora Affairs and Migrant Workers has called upon the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) to disclose the details of individuals it hired during the recent recruitment of officers in the customs tax department.
Seeking to ensure fairness and equal opportunity, the committee has requested a comprehensive list of successful candidates and the criteria employed to finalize the selection.
Embakasi East MP, Babu Owino, brought up the matter, raising concerns about whether the recruitment process solely favoured candidates from Nairobi or if it extended its reach to other regions of the country.
Babu emphasized the importance of inclusivity, stating that the recruitment should accommodate individuals from diverse backgrounds, rather than being restricted to Nairobi alone.
Committee chairperson Lydia Haika (Taita Taveta) echoed these sentiments during discussions with KRA officials, asserting that the requested details should be furnished by the following week.

Responding to the queries, Acting KRA Commissioner for Customs and Border Control, Pamela Ahago, assured the committee that the requested information would be provided in due course.
Ahago acknowledged that some successful candidates had already commenced training in Eldoret, but not all had reported for their assigned sessions.
Ahago clarified that the recruitment process was open to all applicants nationwide, emphasizing that successful candidates were chosen from various regions.
In May, KRA announced the vacancies through its official website, specifically targeting individuals who demonstrated result-oriented attitudes, self-drive, and high levels of integrity.
The notice outlined the requirements, including being a Kenyan citizen aged between 18 and 30 years and holding a minimum grade of C Minus in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education or International General Certificate of Secondary Education.
Applicants were directed to submit their applications online before the deadline of Monday, May 15.
The notice further stated that the gross salary attached to the positions in the Domestic Taxes Department was set at Sh53,500, subject to applicable statutory deductions.
