Gaucho, real name Calvin Okoth Otieno was on Tuesday arraigned in Kiambu and charged with creating a disturbance in violation of Section 95 (1)(b) of the Penal Code.

Gaucho, however, denied the charge and was released on a bond of Sh20,000 or an alternative cash bail of Sh5,000 after he was linked by police to the demos outside the DCI headquarters on May 25, 2023.

It is after he was released on bail by the Kiambu Law Courts that the activist expressed his outrage with the Azimio la Umoja Coalition party, which is headed by Raila Odinga.

During his outbursts, which are captured in a video that has since gone viral, Gaucho accused the Azimio leadership of bias in dealing with supporters of the coalition outfit.

He lamented that following his arrest no Azimio bigwig had come to see or get him released like was the case when former Mungiki leader Maina Njenga was arrested and detained.

“It pains me a lot. And this message goes to the Azimio co-principals: when Masina Njenga was arrested, up to four Azimio principals went to see him and the case was the same when he was taken to Nakuru (court). However, when I was arrested it seems like it is just some dog taken to the police station. Should I change my name so that people can come to see me?” he posed.

He further lamented that tens youth “supporting the cause” have been forgotten by Azimio.

“20 to 30 of my colleagues who started the struggle in Bunge La Mwananchi are now rotting in Industrial Area (remand) and others are jailed at Kamiti Prison. If Gaucho who is well known and I have to beg to be released, what about those who are not well known?” he asked.

While intimating that Raila was the only genuine person in the coalition, Gaucho warned that should things not change, he would skip any anti-government demos called by Azimio.

“I know the only genuine person there is Raila Odinga, others who surround him think they are being robbed of political mileage. If you don’t change, when you call your next demos, I will just wish you well. We must all be treated equal,” Warned Gaucho.

He further accused leaders in the opposition coalition party of sabotaging his meeting with former President Uhuru Kenyatta, who had expressed his interest in a rendezvous with him.

He was arrested by undercover detectives on Tuesday May 23 and detained overnight at Muthangari police station before being released with no charges being preferred against him at the time.
