The Safari Collection-owned exclusive boutique hotel, Giraffe Manor has come under sharp criticism from a large section of Kenyans.
This follows a video clip that called attention to an incident alleged to be racial discrimination against locals surfaced online.
According to the video, a Kenyan lady called the Giraffe Manor to make a reservation for a stay at the facility in mid-July.
The hotel’s contact could be heard in the video telling the lady that no slots were available as they were fully booked.
The poor lady could not also be furnished with the reservation rates detail and was instead referred to the company’s email for the details.
However, shortly afterwards, the same lady called the establishment again, but this time with a foreign accent and certainly a slot for the same dates she had earlier asked for was confirmed.
Besides confirming availability for the reservation, she was also told the rates for boarding and other pertinent details.
Apparently Giraffe Manor discriminates against locals, with your Kenyan accent, you don’t get a booking pic.twitter.com/Kyilqt2M11

Kenyans took to social media to express their candid feelings regarding the incident and here are a few of their comments:
You all got sucked into their 'acceptance' when they gave a 'statement' after some Kenyans complained. During the pandemic they were desperate for customers.. you went there, now they don't need us. We hd the power the first time but we go obsessed with want of being part of them

Giraffe manor will trend today for being discriminatory and they still won’t care. A time like this next year they will be exposed by someone else over the same issue 😬

I experienced this in 2019. Giraffe manor once you call them with your kenyan accent, fully booked. They don’t even hide it.We have apartments in Kenya that only allow indians and you are all okay with that. So don’t have the selective outrage. Let pathetic racists thrive. https://t.co/AOiTS11YVs— Eve Maina (@evenmaina) May 16, 2023
This is yet another case of discrimination within a short time to be experienced in the land of Kenya.
In 2022, an upmarket entertainment spot known as Alchemist found itself on the receiving end of a public backlash after the establishment was accused of racial profiling.
Kenyans sharply reacted to a video that went viral online that showed a black person presumably a Kenyan citizen being turned away from the establishment.
The incident saw the upmarket club shut down as the Nairobi County Government launched a probe into the incident.
