Former Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu has suffered a major blow after the High Court issued orders freezing his assets worth a whopping Sh1.9 billion.

The assets belonging to Waititu, who is also the former Member of Parliament for Embakasi and Kabete, that have been ordered frozen consist of 18 pieces of land and seven vehicles.

In May 2022, anti-graft body EACC moved to court seeking to have him verify the source of the assets reportedly gotten while serving as the Kabete MP and later as Kiambu Governor.

In its petition, EACC sought to have the court issue an order prohibiting the former Kiambu Governor from subdividing his 18 pieces of land and selling the said seven motor vehicles.

“The Defendants shall deposit Sh24.6 million, being the value of the motor vehicles, in a joint interest earning account within 7 days,” ruled the court.

EACC accuses Waititu of illegally benefitting from proceeds of dubious tendering processes through contractors to his bank accounts belonging to him, his wife and her three firms.

The said suspicious companies which were pinpointed by EACC are Saika Two Estate Developers Limited, Bins Management Services Limited and Bienvenue Delta Hotel.

He is reported to have amassed the assets worth Sh1,937,709,376 between 2015 and 2020 with the anti-corruption saying the assets did not match his known legal sources of income.

The case is set to be mentioned on May 24, 2023.
