A Kiambu court has released former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko on a Sh300,000 bond with a surety of a similar amount in a case in which he is facing multiple charges of assault and robbery with violence.
Kiambu Chief Magistrate Stella Atambo ordered Sonko be freed on bond on Tuesday afternoon after he spent a week in police custody as he awaited the court decision on his bail application.
The former governor, who was impeached last month, is expected to be presented at Kahawa Law Court later on Tuesday afternoon in relation to a case linking him to terror activities.
Sonko will appear for a hearing in which the prosecution seeks to detain him for 30 days to allow the Anti-Terror Police Unit (ATPU) to finish investigating his links to terrorism related activities.
