UDA Secretary-General Cleophas Malala disclosed intriguing details about the plight of the Luo community, stating they are often denied employment opportunities despite their merit.

Malala was speaking on Sunday at Apuoyo School in Siaya County where he met with Siaya County UDA delegates for the party’s ground activation and membership recruitment drive.

Malala noted that the Luo community is the most learned community reginally, yet they are not represented when it comes to job opportunities, as they are often stereotyped as being synonymous with stones

“The most learned community in East and Central Africa is the Luo. The Luos are the well educated, but when time comes for employment you do not feature because whenever people see a Luo, they see stones,” Malala said.

“When everyone sees a Luo, they perceive a cooking pot on their head.”

Malala further disclosed that this discrimination also affects the youth from the community during job interviews, where they are often denied opportunities due to stereotypical profiling.

“That is how you a discriminated, your children are denied opportunities during interviews because of the stereotypical profiling of the Luo Nation,” he added.

He appealed to the Luo community to avoid the demonstrations.

“I want to urge you and I am very serious on this matter…we do sit at the top level and we see someone emerges first during interviews but they say this one will cause chaos. If we place this one here at KRA they will cause so many chaos,” Malala said.

“Because they profile the person as a protestor. I would like to like to ask you to please, let us stop with the demonstrations,” Malala said.



Malala also extended a hand to the Luo community and asked them to join the government as their current position which opposes the government causes a development deficit in the region.

"Luo Nyanza continues lagging behind on matters development because of the perennial habit of opposing the government and violent anti government demonstrations," Malala said.

"Get into the government and enjoy it's sweetness."
