President William Ruto on Wednesday appointed Douglas Kanja Kirocho as the new Deputy Inspector General of Police.

Kirocho, who has been the Commandant of the General Service Unit (GSU), now takes over from Edward Mbugua, who proceeded on terminal leave in March.

Eliud Kipkoech Lagat, who had been the Director of Investigations at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), has been appointed the new GSU Commandant by the Head of State.

Similarly, Bruno Shioso has been moved from the Kiganjo Police Training Institute, where he had been the Commandant, to the Kenya Coast Guard where he will be serving as the Director-General.

Shioso formerly served as the Police Spokesman before he was moved to Kiganjo.

In the National Police Service changes announced by President Ruto, Director of Operations Gideon Munga Nyale will replace Shioso at Kiganjo Police Training Institute, while Ranson Loimodoni will replace Nyale.

In a statement released by Chief of Staff and Head of Public Service Felix Koskei, President Ruto said his decision followed recommendations made by the National Police Service and take effect immediately.
