Authorities in Kisumu East Sub-County are currently probing an incident where a police officer is alleged to have thrown a tear gas canister inside a nightclub.

The Monday night incident left many residents of Kisumu who witnessed it in shock.

The said officer, who is stationed at Kasagam Police Station, is reported to have previously lobbed another canister inside a hotel compound in the Nyamasaria area.

A police report says the officer arrived at a lodging at 3 a.m. alleging that his girlfriend had entered the premises with another man.

However, he was denied access and proceeded to throw a teargas canister before fleeing the scene on a motorcycle.

Later on, the officer proceeded to a nightclub along the Kisumu-Nairobi Highway, where he lobbed another teargas canister.

He was not so lucky after launching that attack because members of the public apprehended him before he could flee the scene.

The charged crowd attacked him and meted out jungle justice, treating him to blows, kicks and hot slaps.

He was subsequently rushed to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital, where he is receiving medical attention for injuries he sustained during his encounter with the mob.
