The body of a fourth-year female university student, who had been missing since last week, was on Monday morning discovered floating in a river close to Bomet town in Bomet County.

The body of the student at Bomet University has been identified by police as that of 22-year-old Mary Ann Wangari and was found floating in Nyangores River in Chebirir area.

Bomet Central Sub-County Deputy Police Commandant Ali Bashir says the student had been reported missing on Tuesday last week.

“The body was discovered by a member of the public who proceeded to inform the police. Our officers together with the school administration have begun recording statements from students who were last seen with the deceased as we embark on serious investigations,” said Bashir.

Wangari was a Communication and Public Relations student at Bomet University.

The body that had already started decomposing has been taken to the morgue at Longisa County Referral Hospital.
