Kisumu Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o has suspended all anti-government public demonstrations in Kisumu indefinitely.

Nyong’o announced the suspension of the demonstrations via a statement he issued on Tuesday.

In his statement, the governor said the county has been in consultations with the Raila Odinga-led Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition leadership and its County Executive Committee over the suspension.

“However, after detailed consultations with the Azimion National leadership and the County Executive Committee (the cabinet); I wish to make the following announcements,” the statement read in part.

He also said residents of Kisumu County can join the public anti-government demonstration in the country’s capital.

“1. THAT all public demonstrations within Kisumu County have from today been suspended indefinitely so that we can join the demonstrations in Nairobi,” Nyong’o said.

Nyong’o reiterated Kisumu County’s commitment to Azimio aspirations and its intentions for Kenya and appealed to Kisumu residents to collaborate with security personnel to maintain peace and security.

“Finally, I would like to appeal to the people of Kisumu to work in tandem with law enforcement officers to maintain peace and security in our county,” the governor said.

Nyong'o’s move comes just hours ahead of the second leg of the Azimio weekly demonstrations planned for Thursday.
