The Inspector General of Police, Japheth Koome has banned Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition leader Raila Odinga-led anti-government demonstrations scheduled for Monday and Thursday.

Koome has also dared anyone planning to cause chaos in planned demos and meet the full force of the law.

Koome, while addressing the press on Sunday, firmly said nobody will be allowed into the Central Business District to cause chaos.

In the same breath, the IG said nobody will also be restricted from leaving their respective residences for any reason.

"We are ready as the police to ensure that there is calm in the entire country starting with Nairobi. Every Kenyan should go on with their work tomorrow. Ours is to ensure that every corner of this country is secure and safe. This is our country and I would urge all of us to be proud to be Kenyans," Koome said.

Koome affirmed that his officers are prepared to tackle any vices that will come up during the demonstrations and will not show clemency to any person found in possession of any weapons during the demos.

"We have visitors from many foreign nations and we will not allow anything to happen in our capital city. Everyone has the right to go into the city center," Koome said.

"I have a mandate to ensure that I protect lives and property and I am very good at that. I will not sleep on the job."

Koome in a show of might, said he had enough muscle to put anyone away regardless of their social status.

"Whichever level or status you have in society. I have enough land cruisers to take you away to jail and be there for a lifetime,” he said.

Koome also took a swipe at Raila for organising the demonstrations, saying they were egotistical and politically instigated.

“I am an old man; I have enjoyed my life. Why would I want to destroy this country for the future generation because of selfish interests?” Koome posed.

The IG also criticizes the politicians for confronting the Nairobi Police Boss Adamson Bungei whom they accused of brutalizing the demonstrators and threatened action against him.

Koome asked the politicians to go for him instead of attacking his junior officers.
