The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has launched a probe into acts of violence that may have been committed during the Raila Odinga-led anti-government demonstrations held on Monday.
The DCI said some criminals who took advantage of the situation and attacked innocent citizens and police officers during the demos were captured on camera.
According to the DCI, th well coordinated gang not only destroyed property of unknown value but also disarmed a police officer and took away his firearm whose magazine was loaded with 15 rounds of ammunitio.
"As a result, property of unknown value was destroyed while a total of 33 officers suffered injuries of various degrees and some are still recuperating at various hospitals in the city," the DCI said.
"A firearm whose magazine was loaded with 15 rounds of 9mm calibre was also lost by one of our officers, after he was attacked by a gang of a well coordinated riotous mob, as the officers prevented destruction of public property in Embakasi area of Nairobi County."

The DCI while acknowledging the right to assembly, picketing and petition cautioned Kenyans against infringing on the rights of others in the process.
The directorate disclosed it has launched a manhunt for the criminals who will face several charges and appealed to members of the public to assist with any information that may lead to the arrest of the criminals.
"Meanwhile, the Directorate is currently on a manhunt for the suspects whose images appear below as others are being gathered and shall be updated, who will face charges ranging from robbery with violence, malicious damage to public property and assault among other allied offences," the DCI said.
"We are appealing to members of the public to volunteer information that may lead to their arrest."
The DCI also asked the suspects to present themselves at the DCI headquarters along Kiambu Road or at any nearest police station by Friday evening.
