Raila Odinga increases days in weekly Azimio anti-government demonstrations

Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition leader Raila Odinga now says that the nationwide anti-government demonstrations will take place twice a week.

Raila while addressing the media on Tuesday at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Foundation in Nairobi said the demonstrations over the high cost of living in the country will be held on Mondays and Thursdays.

He said the protests which will resume the following week will be held twice per week because of what he termed as public demand.

"Fellow Kenyans, in the second phase of our protest, and in response to public demand, we shall now hold the protests every Monday and Thursday beginning next week," Raila said.

Raila also claimed during the Monday demonstrations,  there was an attempt on his life and that of Wiper Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka as police shot at their vehicles and said those responsible for the act must be brought to book.

"Those responsible must be held to account and there was also an attempt on my life as well as Kalonzo Musyoka as the police shot at our cars," Raila said.

On the arrest of some protestors, Raila demanded their release unconditionally and disclosed they have put a team to determine the orders the police officers were working under.

He added that they will go for individual responsibility and culpability of police officers involved in brutalising members of the public who took part in the nationwide protests.

"We have put together a team of security and legal experts to determine the orders given by police that led to the brutality," he said.

He singled out Nairobi Police boss Adamson Bungei as the first police officer to be answerable.

"We are going for individual responsibility and culpability for police officers starting with Nairobi police boss Adamson Bungei," Raila . 

He lauded members of the press for offering coverage of the Monday protests.
