President William Ruto has intimated that he is ready to engage in talks with any leaders as long as it concerns the future of the country albeit within the law.

This comes as Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition leader Raila Odinga's supporters and a section of Kenyans who are suffering under the weight of the high cost of living are currently taking part in the nationwide demos against Ruto's administration.

Ruto was speaking during a prayer rally meeting on Sunday in Kapsabet, Nandi County.

“I am ready to engage with any leader if we are discussing the future of our country, the destiny of our nation, in a constitutional, legal manner,” Ruto said.

However, Ruto said he would not be intimidated through ultimatums into submission and rewarding of impunity.

“But we are not going to engage in anarchy, you are not going to threaten us with ultimatums and violence. We will be rewarding impunity if we were to succumb to ultimatums and chaos. We will not,” the president.

Ruto's assertions contrasts his previous stand in which he did not want to engage the opposition in any discussions.

Raila on Tuesday, while addressing a rally in Siaya County, declared Monday a public holiday to allow Kenyans and his supporters to take part in the planned countrywide mass demonstrations against President William Ruto’s administration for failing to lower the cost of living.

Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko moved to court on Friday to file a petition against Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition leader Raila Odinga for declaring Monday a public holiday.

Sonko argued in his petition that Raila broke the law by making the declaration, yet he did not have the prerogative to.
