Opposition Azimio La Umoja party leader Raila Odinga's daughter Winnie Odinga has confirmd that she will join the anti-government protests scheduled for Monday, March 20.
In a post on social media, the East Africa Legislative Assembly (EALA) Member of Parliament lamented that their mobile devices had allegedly been disabled by the state and urged Kenyans taking part in the demonstrations to meet her in the streets.
“All electronics hacked! All completely unusable, all dead! Meet me in the streets! #RutoMustGo," she posted on Monday morning.
Winnie played a key part in Raila's last presidential campaigns ahead of the August 9, 2022 General Election and has been very vocal about her support for her multi-party fight champion father.
Ruling Kenya Kwanza leaders led by Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua had dared Raila to permit Winnie to take part in the anti-government demos he was organising across the country as opposed to using other people's children.
“Those who want our children to go to the streets have organized for their children to go to EALA in Arusha. If he wants street protests, it is okay. But for them to take place, let your daughter, son come from Arusha and physically lead the demonstrations and the rest of the Kenyans can follow,” said Gachagua.
Raila on Sunday vowed to lead the grand march to State House to demand his victory that he says was stolen by electoral body IEBC when it declared William Ruto the president on September 15, 2022.
“This is the moment to take a stand for democracy and the future of our nation. Join us both online and on the ground for the Date with Destiny,” Raila said.
This comes as the Government deployed a heavy contingent of armed police officers across Nairobi City and barricaded all roads leading to State House barely a day after assuring Kenyans that no roads would be barricaded due to the Raila-led protests.
