More than 30 political leaders from Nyanza region on Monday declared their full support for President William Ruto and his Kenya Kwanza coalition government.

The former elected leaders vowed to ignore threats from Azimio la Umoja leader Raila Odinga and work with Ruto to attract development projects to their respective regions.

They were led to the State House Nairobi meeting by former governors Evans Kidero (Nairobi), Okoth Obado (Migori) and Jack Ranguma (Kisumu), as well as former police spokesperson Charles Owino.

They vowed that they will mobilise the residents of Nyanza region, which is Raila’s political stronghold, to embrace the Ruto administration and all its development initiatives.

The leaders assured Ruto that they will join his ruling UDA party to help bolster its development agenda as outlined in its manifesto promised to Kenyans during campaigns.

On his part, the Head of State argued that it is an opportune time to change the politics of Nyanza region by embracing development to uplift the lives of all the area residents.

"We now have the opportunity to do the right thing for the people of Nyanza. It's now your opportunity to change politics of Nyanza to that of development,” said Ruto.

Ruto assured the former elected leaders that his Kenya Kwanza government will serve all regions equally without regard to how they voted in the August 9, 2022 General Election.

Ruto was flanked by DP Rigathi Gachagua, ICT CS Eliud Owalo and Interior PS Raymond Omollo, in the meeting also attended by former Nyanza MPs Nicholas Gumbo, Martin Ogindo, Edick Anyanga, John Pesa and Rose Nyamunga, and former Lake Basin Development Authority Chairman Odoyo Owidi among others.
