In 2016, a video went viral capturing a man who was protesting his arrest by traffic and National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) officers for allegedly driving while drunk.

When he was nabbed for drink driving using the alcoblow in December 2016, he protested his arrest saying he was being hounded “...like a rat on the highway...” in remarks that excited Kenyans online.

That same man, Alex Sadi, is in trouble and is being hunted down by police for grilling after a chemist linked to him was dubiously found with Sh5 million worth of government drugs.

The dubious drugs were impounded by officials from Pharmacy and Poisons Board (PPB) during a raid done on Sunday evening at his Kadunguni Pharmacy in Mtwapa, Mombasa.

According to PPB Head of Crime Investigations and Enforcement Unit Dennis Otieno, the board nabbed the drugs following a tip-off on alleged illegal operations by Sadi’s chemist.

The drugs were found stored at the back of the chemist and the board is questioning how Sadi got access to the drugs that had Kenya Medical Supplies Agency (KEMSA) branding.

“The owner of the pharmacy is a well-established person who witnesses reported stocking the drugs. If we had impounded him earlier on we would have also found Augmentin labelled Kemsa, which we were told he had already sold by the time we arrived,” Otieno stated.

Otieno also said their investigation had revealed that the Sadi was not found in their systems hence he was not registered to operate as a medical practitioner in Kenya.

The PPB officers also found Anti-Retroviral (ARV), Fluconazole, Flucoxacillin and Paracetamol tablets as well as disposable bags all labeled Kemsa GOK during the raid on Sadi’s chemist.

The board revealed that Sadi managed to flee from the scene before the raid and PPB is collaborating with the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to track and arrest him.

During his arrest in 2016, Sadi had lamented:

"When you catch me like a rat on the highway…and I have been driving for over 20 years and you come talking to me big nonsense…stop wasting your time, stop wasting your good time because that is where you go wrong.”

While recounting the incident during an interview with NTV weeks later, Sadi had claimed that he had only imbibed two bottles of beer after work on the fateful day he was nabbed.

“I took only two bottles of beer before I left for home. I knew one can have at least two bottles which does not exceed the limit,” he said then.
