The Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) has issues a statement regarding the nationwide power outage that occurred on Saturday evening.

According to an initial statement the company issued, a system disturbance causes the massive power outage.

“We have lost bulk power supply to various parts of the country due to a system disturbance,” KPLC’s statement read.

In a later statement, KPLC specified that a fault on the Suswa-Loyangalani high-voltage power transmission line caused the outage.

“Initial reports indicate that the outage was caused by a fault that occurred on the Suswa-Loyangalani high-voltage power transmission line,” KPLC said.

“We are working to restore normalcy within the shortest time possible. An update on the restoration progress will be issued in due course,” stated Kenya Power.

KPLC later announced that power supply has already been restored to some parts of the country such Eldoret, Kisumu and Nakuru.

“We are glad to report that we have restored power supply to parts of Eldoret, Kisumu and Nakuru,” the company said.

The company said it is working to restore normalcy in other areas as soon as possible.

KPLC thanked its customers for their patience and said it will issue another update in due course as they continue with the restoration exercise.
