Auctioneers on Thursday pounced on the Catholic University of East Africa (CUEA) main campus in Karen and towed away five school buses over a debt accrued by the institution.

Accompanied by armed police officers, auctioneer from Skypac Consult Auctioneers arrived at the university in the afternoon to execute a court order over a unpaid debt.

Four former employees of the higher learning institution moved to court in 2017 after they were declared redundant following the closing down of the CUEA Kisumu County campus.

A Kisumu court on December 19, 2019 ordered CUEA to pay Erick Oyier Omondi Sh92,000 but failure to honour it saw the amount attract interest and attachment costs to Sh282,999.

The Kisumu Employment and Labour Relations Court had also directed CUEA to pay Simon Ntongai Sh264,000, which accrued interest and penalties to increase to Sh373,835.


The institution further failed to honor the Labour court directive to pay another complainant, Mercy Flora Aluoch, Sh796,105, which has also risen to Sh1,058,497.

Futher, David Oima who was initially owed Sh324,000 is now owed Sh390,785 by the institution of higher learning.


After CUEA failed to pay the four debts amounting to Sh2,106,116, the court on August 29, 2022 issued warrants of attachment and sale of moveable property in execution of decree for money.

On September 30, 2022, the Kisumu court approved attachment of the five buses plate numbers KBC 102Y, KBC 103Y, KAW 386B, KAT 422C and KAW 022D by the auctioneers.


The court further ordered Hardy Police Station OCS to provide assistance to auctioneer Brian Elly Opar during execution of the attachment warrants and sale of the motor vehicles.
