The family of the late former Education CS Prof George Magoha has revealed that a funeral committee has been constituted and is holding meetings to finalize his burial arrangements.

In a statement, the family said the committee has family members, colleagues and friends in the current and former administration and colleagues in the academia and medical fields.

Family and funeral committee spokesperson Julius Jwan says funeral plans are underway after the family buried Prof Magoha’s younger brother, Prof Richard Magoha, on Saturday.

Jwan thanked President William Ruto, former President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga for the support to the family following Prof Magoha’s sudden death last week.

He says Prof Magoha’s family continues to receive support from well-wishers and hosting both local and international visitors who are coming to pay their last respects at his home.

“The family deeply appreciates the messages of condolences and the overwhelming support accorded by well-wishers at this difficult time,” Jwan said.

The family is expected to provide more details on the funeral arrangements for Prof Magoha on Friday morning at a press briefing planned at the family residence in Nairobi.

The late former CS is scheduled to be laid to rest at his Umiru Village in Gem, Siaya County, on February 11 with the government undertaking to finance the funeral arrangements.
