Officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) arrested Korogocho Ward Member of County Assembly (MCA) Absalom Odhiambo alias Matakwei over his remarks on Monday last week during the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition rally at Kamukunji Grounds.

DCI officers arrested Absalom at the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) headquarters at Britam Tower in Nairobi’s Upper Hill area, where he had gone to honour a summons that was issued three days earlier.

"Today the Korogocho MCA Hon. Absalom Odhiambo Onyango honoured summons by NCIC whereupon he was arrested and handed over to the DCI Nairobi area for further action," NCIC said.

The NCIC summoned Absalom because it deemed that his remarks threatened to incite ethnic hatred and incite Kenyans to violence.

"A case in point is the utterances by Korogocho Member of County Assembly Hon. Absalom Odhiambo Onyango at the Azimio La Umoja Alliance rally at the Kamukunji grounds on Monday 23rd January 2022 which inter alia invoked ethnic hatred while inciting Kenyans to violence. Therefore, we have summoned Hon. Absalom Odhiambo Onyango to record a statement," the NCIC statement read.

Absalom was seen using unsavoury terms while criticizing President William Ruto's administration in a video that has since gone viral on social media.

He urged their supporters to march into the Nairobi CBD and bring business to a standstill.
