Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has issued a statement addressing claims by the Royal Dutch Airlines (KLM) that there was civil unrest in the country.

Murkomen in the statement said he had already spoken to the airline’s representative to Kenya and registered his protests with him regarding the claims that he termed as unfounded.

“I have spoken to Dutch Airline KLM's Country Representative to Kenya about a false claim posted on their social media on the purported civil unrest in Kenya,” the statement read.

“I have officially registered my protest with the airline against this unfounded, false, insensitive and misleading information that paints Kenya in bad light.”

While reacting to a social media post KLM posted earlier and has since pulled down, Murkomen noted Kenya and the Netherlands have excellent diplomatic ties and the airline is a well-known brand in the country.

The Transport CS expressed shock at the airline’s action and said Kenya will explore the diplomatic avenues to prevent the same thing from happening again.

“We are therefore shocked that the airline would spread such fabricated, malicious and false allegations without fact-checking and considering the probable effects to our country's image and economy,” the CS said.

“Whereas this post has been pulled down from KLM's social media pages, we will escalate the discussion through diplomatic channels to ensure the same does not recur.”
