The fight against counterfeit alcohol and tax evasion by unscrupulous traders has intensified as Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) and Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) officers discovered and impounded a consignment of counterfeit alcohol in Thika.
Over 300 cartons containing thousands of bottles of counterfeited spirits destined for the local market were recovered in the operation.
The discovery followed a raid on a residential property at Mugi Court in Thika’s Makongeni Sub-county by the detectives, who acted on an intelligence report where they found empty bottles of different brands of alcohol and litres of ethanol.

The impounded counterfeit alcoholic drinks whose safety could not be immediately established were packaged in popular brands bottles including Kane Extra, King Vodka, Nest Vodka, Hunters Vodka, Chrome Vodka, Blue Ice Vodka, Konyagi, Triple Ace, Hunters Vodka, K.C Vodka, Kibao and others.
The KRA officials confirmed the impounded drinks had counterfeited KRA stamps affixed to them.
This comes barely a week after another successful operation in which Detectives arrested six suspects in connection to the manufacture of counterfeit KRA, Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) and Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) stamps.
