The State Department for Housing and Urban Development has committed to supporting counties in planning their cities and facilitating projects that fall under its mandate. 

This was disclosed by Housing PS Charles Hinga on Tuesday during a meeting with Siaya Governor James Orengo who paid him a courtesy call.

Hinga said the State Department is directly liked with counties in terms of project rollouts. 

The PS reiterated the government’s commitment to enhancing service delivery to its citizens.


Hinga lauded county governments that have already set aside land for the affordable housing program.

According to Hinga, Siaya County has committed to avail 6 acres of land for the affordable housing program.

Apart from the housing program, the PS said they have agreed to improve the partnership with Siaya County.

During the meeting, the leaders discussed the economic stimulus project support and the ongoing works, including the rehabilitation of access roads and the improvement of sewer lines among other projects.

Hinga also said a team from the Housing Department has already been dispatched to various counties to follow up on the affordable housing programme.


This comes a few days before the planned ground-breaking ceremony for the Affordable Housing programme in Homabay County.

President William Ruto is also expected visit to Homa Bay County where he will commission the Homabay municipal market.

On Saturday, the president is expected to tour Siaya County for of ICT CS Eliud Owalo homecoming ceremony.
