Jubilee Party Vice Chairman David Murathe has defended Senate Majority Chief Whip Irungu Kanga'ta over his controversial letter to President Uhuru Kenyatta on Mt Kenya region’s hostility to the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI).
Speaking on vernacular station Kameme fm, Murathe agreed with Senator Kang'ata that things were not okay in Kenyatta's backyard and asked his Jubilee and ODM colleagues not to rebuke him since he spoke “truth to power” on the BBI.
During the Thursday morning interview, he only took issue with the outspoken Kang'ata for opting to address the matter through an open letter to the president instead of privately.
“Kang'ata chose the wrong means to address the BBI matter but what everything he said was nothing short of the truth," Murathe said.

The former Gatanga MP, who is a close ally of Kenyatta, accused those campaigning for BBI of misleading the Head of State that the initiative is popular in Mt Kenya region yet it was not.
“Those going around telling the President that they are campaigning for the BBI are all lying. No one has reached out to the people of Mt Kenya to explain to them the gains in it.
“Kang'ata is an energetic and youthful leader and that could be the problem. In our meeting with the National Management Committee, we saw it apt to talk to him."
Murathe undertook to look for Kang'ata to establish what went wrong, even as he lauded the Murang’a senator for leadership style.
