President William Ruto appointed former KTN journalist Michael Gitonga as the new Secretary of State Functions.

Gitonga took to his social media to announce his latest appointment.

He expressed his gratitude to Ruto for considering him for the opportunity to serve Kenya in that capacity.

“With a new year comes new beginnings I am first of all grateful to God. I also take this opportunity to thank the President of Kenya @WilliamsRuto for the opportunity to serve this nation as Secretary State Functions,” Gitonga wrote.

Gitonga, who until his appointment as the Secretary of State Functions was the Director of Communication in the office of the First Lady also thanked the First Lady Rachel Ruto for her leadership and guidance while he worked with her.

“I am indebted to The First Lady @MamaRachelRuto Your leadership and guidance are invaluable I will work to the best of my ability to fulfil the responsibilities of this role, so help me God,” Gitonga said.


Before working as the Director of Communication in the office of the First Lady, Gitonga was a news anchor at KTN and a Morning Express show host.

Surprisingly, Gitonga is a holder of an Electrical Engineering degree from Nottingham University in the United Kingdom.


Before joining KTN, Gitonga had become a household name with a breakfast show titled ‘Mike on the mic’ which he hosted on Radio 316 for over 10 years.
