An employee of the Royal Media Services (RMS) has died of food poisoning while several others have been hospitalised after consuming food provided at work on Christmas day.

In a statement, RMS Managing Director Wachira Waruru confirmed the death saying the unnamed staff member was among those on duty over the Christmas season.

Waruru also revealed that many other employees of the media house owned by billionaire businessman SK Macharia had also consumed the food provided by a private caterer.

“We are deeply shocked and saddened to inform the public that one staff member has unfortunately succumbed to the illness attributed to the suspected food poisoning,” said Waruru in the statement.

He added, “Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of our deceased staff member during this difficult time.”

The RMS MD, however, did not disclose the identity of the deceased employee or the caterer the leading private media firm had contracted to feed its staff on Christmas Day.

“RMS is providing all the necessary support to the affected staff and suspected food poisoning incident is currently under investigation,” added Waruru.

RMS insiders who spoke to Swala Nyeti confirmed that most of the employees who had been rushed to hospital on Christmas day complaining of severe stomach aches have been discharged and are recuperating well.
