Christmas has come early for patients detained at health facilities across Nairobi City County over their inability to raise money to foot their medical bills.
This comes after Governor Johnson Sakaja ordered their immediate release so that they could join their families for Christmas celebrations.
The governor made the announcement on Sunday at City Hall during the lighting of the Nairobi County Christmas tree.
Sakaja reiterated his pronouncement on Monday with a post on the same he shared on his social media accounts.

“I’ve directed that all persons detained at our county hospitals because of non-payment be released to go home to be with their families this Christmas,” Sakaja said.
While pledging to pay the bills, Sakaja said it was even more expensive to hold patients at the health institutions over non-payment as it also makes other patients miss spaces to be cared for.
“We will pay. In many cases it is even more expensive to cater for them in terms of food etc and patients who need space miss it,” Sakaja said.
