Supporters of Deputy President William Ruto’s ‘hustler nation’ on Wednesday disrupted a rally by the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party Leader Raila Odinga in Githurai, Nairobi.

Trouble started when a section of the crowd backing Ruto started shouting as Odinga addressed his supporters as he campaigned for the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI).

The charged supporters of the “wheelbarrow” gospel then started hurling stones at a section of Odinga’s motorcade smashing windows of some cars as they sped off from the chaotic venue as police lobed teargas to disperse the rowdy crowds.

The youth opposing the BBI message Odinga was spreading chanted pro-Ruto slogans as they also chased away supporters of the opposition chief and BBI who were in attendance.

The chaos come hours after ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna posted a video on Twitter of Nominated Senator Isaac Mwaura charging a group of traders ahead of a visit and opening of the Githurai market by Odinga.

Sifuna, in his tweet, warned Mwaura that he would be held liable should any violence ensue at the market.

Odinga and Ruto have been exchanging bitter words in the last few days with each blaming the other for the Jubilee government failures as they drum up support for their presidential bids.
