President William Ruto’s daughter Charlene Ruto has issued a statement addressing concerns by a section of Kenyans about how her office is being funded.

Charlene’s statement came on Wednesday after a video clip went viral across social media in which she was introducing members of her staff working in her office ‘Office of the First Daughter’ during the ‘You Lead Summit 2022’ held in Arusha Tanzania.

The viral video caused a backlash with a section of netizens wondering why there is an Office of the First Daughter.

In her statement, Charlene noted her unofficial office is not a constitutional office, and it is also not funded by the taxpayers' money.

“The Office of the First Daughter is a private entity. It is neither a constitutional office nor is it being funded by Kenyan taxpayers. The office runs to purely facilitate the activities of & any programs being run by Ms. Charlene Ruto,” the statement read.

According to the statement, the office has engaged various players across Kenya through its independent structure and facilitators to champion youth-based agenda and climate change.

The first daughter also said her office has acted in good faith to voice the plight of Kenyan youth and ensure they can access opportunities.

“The Office of the First Daughter has at all times acted in good faith to ensure that the Kenyan Youth have a voice and get access to opportunities to enable sustainable livelihoods,” the statement read.
