Eight people have been confirmed dead while 21 others sustained serious injuries following a grisly accident that occurred at the Ngata bridge along the Nakuru-Eldoret Highway.


Nakuru West Sub-county Police Commander Edwin Otieno confirmed the unfortunate incident that took place on Tuesday evening at around 5:30.

According to the police report, the accident happened when a trailer that was headed towards Nakuru from the Eldoret direction lost control and rammed into a 14-seater public service vehicle that was headed in the opposite direction.


The PSV lost control and also hit another 14-seater that was destined for Bomet.

The impact was so great that one PSV overturned while the other had its right side completely wrecked.

Bodies of passengers from one PSV were strewn all over the scene.


The first responders at the scene immediately began the rescue mission and pulled out survivors from the mangled vehicles.

Survivors were rushed to Nakuru Level 5 Hospital where they were admitted.

This health facility’s Medical Superintendent Aisha Maina confirmed that the 21 survivors were admitted to the hospital with serious injuries and are receiving treatment.


The stretch near the Ngata Bridge has lately become ill-famed and is considered a black spot by many who blame the sorry state of the road for the accidents.

The accident caused traffic a serious traffic jam on the busy highway.
