Police have finally arrested the notorious gangster believed to be responsible for the murder of a Greek national back in October this year.


Peter Waithaka was arrested on Saturday evening in Nairobi’s Makongeni Estate in Eastlands.

Waithaka’s arrest comes after a meticulously planned sting operation the Kilimani-based detectives conducted.

He is believed to be the ringleader of a criminal outfit that has been terrorising residents of Kilimani and its environs.

Apparently, Waithaka is a jailbird who was recently from the prison where he served a 6-years sentence.

After his arrest, Waithaka took the detectives to his house in Wangige, Kiambu where the detectives recovered crucial exhibits linked to various robbery incidents.


According to the police report, Waithaka and two other accomplices on October 15, 2022, accosted Alex Marcopaulo a Greek national, at the Menelik/Ngong road junction and violently took away a rucksack that he was carrying. 

One of his accomplices whipped out a pistol and shot Marcopaulo once on the right side of the chest, before taking off on their getaway motorbike.

Marcopaulo was rushed to Nairobi Women’s Hospital where doctors tried to save his life but unfortunately, he succumbed to his gunshot injury.

The criminal gang was also reported to have accosted four Dutch tourists on September 29, 2022, outside the Silver Harbour apartment along Kindaruma road.

The incident took place at around 8 am when the tourists were waiting to board a tour van to tour the Nairobi National Park

The gang also violently robbed them of their mobile phones, cash and pieces of jewellery before escaping towards Ngong road on a motorbike, whose plate numbers were concealed.

As the criminal gang was escaping with their find, they fired warning shots in the air to scare off well-wishers who responded to the tourists’ distress call.

Since that incident, the police intensified their manhunt for the notorious gang.


Earlier, the Kilimani-based sleuths had arrested one of Waithaka’s accomplices identified as Stephen Elavuna, 38, whose case is pending before the Chief Magistrate’s court in Kibera.

Detectives are still on a spirited manhunt for the remaining members of Waithaka’s gang and are currently following crucial leads that may see the criminals brought to book.
