The High Court has dealt a blow to Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja’s order to move long-distance public service vehicles from Nairobi CBD to the newly built Green Park bus terminus.

This comes after at least 8 long-distance matatu companies moved to court to challenge Sakaja’s directive.

The operators complained the directive was discriminatory, as some other rival companies could still operate from the CBD.

According to the operators, the directive would cause huge losses, as it would inconvenience long-distance travellers especially as we are approaching the festive season.

The petitioners that filed the petition include the North Rift Luxury Shuttle, Transliner Galaxy, Great Rift Shuttle, Madaraka Prestige, Transline, Sasaline Classic Shuttle, Team Swat, Blue Line, Kina 2015 Classic and Legacy Shuttle.

Sakaja opined the directive scheduled to take effect on Thursday was part of efforts he made to decongest the Nairobi CBD.

Travellers had also raised concerns about the distance between the CBD and the Green Park Bus Terminus especially when they considered having luggage and their families.
