One of the co-accused persons in the murder of four family members and a domestic worker in Karura, Kiambu County has been released by a Kiambu Court.

Sarah Muthoni will now be a state witness and not a suspect in the gruesome murders after she was arrested alongside her boyfriend Lawrence Njoroge Warunge, the key suspect in the case.

The Court on Tuesday ruled that Warunge continues to receive medical attention at Mathari Hospital after the assessment examination revealed that he was not mentally fit to stand trial for the murders.

Warunge was arraigned after confessing to killing his father Nicholas Njoroge Warunge, mother Anne Wanjiku, brother Christian and nephew Maxwell alongside their farmhand James Kinyanjui at Karura area two weeks ago.

The case is set to be mentioned on March 1.
