Former Nairobi governor Mike Sonko on Sunday revealed the role the “Deep State” and the “System” played during opposition demonstrations after the 2017 General Election.
Sonko claimed together with Interior PS Karanja Kibicho, and “System” and “Deep State” members they printed opposition ODM t-shirts and created chaos torched the cars along Ngong Road, Nairobi and blamed it on the Raila Odinga led party.
The recently impeached governor was speaking during a rally in Dagoretti North attended by Deputy President William Ruto and his allies in the Tanga Tanga wing of Jubilee Party.
“In 2017 when ODM had demonstrations, we printed ODM t-shirts and bought second-hand vehicles from showrooms and allegedly burnt them along Ngong Road so that people believe it was ODM. But it was the ‘deep state’ and the ‘system,’” Sonko claimed.

Interior PS Karanja Kibicho Monday afternoon presented himself at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters in Nairobi to record a statement on Sonko's claims that they jointly organised chaos in Nairobi and blamed it on ODM party.
At the time, ODM leader Raila Odinga and his National Super Alliance (NASA) were challenging the presidential results that saw President Uhuru controversially elected for a second term.

The former governor will now also be expected to take himself to DCI to record a statement to back his utterances and shed more light on his troubling claims.
