It has now emerged that the team formed to plan the inauguration of President William Ruto on September 13, 2022, overshot the allocated budget by a monstrous Sh80 million.
A report by the Assumption of the Office of President Committee revealed that the allocation for the inauguration was Sh250 million but the team spent Sh330.7 million.
The report tabled in the National Assembly by Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah of the ruling detailed planning and execution by the team headed by former Head of Public Service Joseph Kinyua.
According to the said report, the team’s overshooting of the set budget was due to the unexpected number of Heads of State and other top foreign dignitaries who turned up.

“Budget for the execute office of the President was appropriated towards the fabrication and setting up of the presidential dais and pavilion, inauguration arena Very, Very Important (VVIP) dais, Very Important Person (VIP) dais that held over 3,000 persons and all the other ancillary décor and fixtures including additional screens as well as defraying the cost of hosting state luncheon at State House,” indicated the report tabled in Parliament.
The Assumption of the Office of President Committee established five sub-committees to better plan the event that saw a smooth transfer of power from President Uhuru Kenyatta.
