Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru has challenged newly sworn in County Executive Committee Members (CECMs) to fast track implementation of key development projects.

The CECMs, seven male and three female, and Chief Officers took their oath of office on Wednesday morning with the county executive being a mix of the new and the old hands.

Jackline Njogu takes over as CEC, Finance and Economic Planning. She was the Agriculture CEC in Waiguru’s first term and is credited with successfully implementing Wezesha Kirinyaga economic stimulus program that promoted agricultural diversification.

George Karoki will handle the Medical Services, Public Health and Sanitation docket after he was promoted from his previous position of Director in the same county department.

Dr John Gachara, who had been in charge of the National Agricultural Rural Intensive Project (NARIG-P) is now Agriculture, Livestock, Veterinary and Fisheries CEC as Calbert Njeru takes the Cooperative Development, Trade, Marketing, Tourism and Enterprise Development.

James Kinyua Mutugi and Rev Samuel Kanjobe retained their former dockets in the county of Education and Public Service and Lands, Physical Planning and Housing respectively.

Former Water, Environment and Natural Resources Chief Officer Jared Migwi takes over the Transport and Public Works docket, as Dennis Muchiimi retained the Department of Sports, Culture and Social Services.


Millicent Nyawira Ngari will now head the Gender and Youth Department while Veronicah Wangari Waweru now takes up the role of CECM for Environment and Natural Resources.

The Governor lauded the team saying they come with vast experience in managing public affairs and that their appointment was a result of years of hard work and selfless service.

“For some of you, this promotion is an acknowledgement of your dedication to your duties in our transformational journey that we have walked in the past years as we pursued our delivery goals,” Waiguru said.


Waiguru called for seamless and prompt completion of ongoing development projects in the county and other initiatives aligned to the County Integrated Development Plan (CIDP).

After the CECMs were sworn in, Governor Waiguru issued the county’s ECDE teachers with letters of appointment into the new Permanent and Pensionable scheme of service.

The scheme that has so far benefited 409 teachers will see the lowest paid ECDE teacher take home a salary of Sh22, 000 per month as the highest paid receives Sh49,570 monthly.
