Amin Mohammed Ibrahim has taken the oath of office as the new Director of the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI).

Ibrahim was sworn into office on Wednesday at the Supreme Court of Kenya in a ceremony presided over by Hon Lady Justice Martha Koome.

The deputy chief registrar of the judiciary Paul Maina administered the new DCI Director’s oath.

In his acceptance speech after taking the oath, Ibrahim expressed his delight to be back in the DCI where he once served for most of his 33 years of service as a police officer.

He also expressed his gratitude to President William Ruto for his appointment.

Ibrahim committed to upholding professionalism and integrity while discharging his duties and pledged to deliver his mandate expeditiously and fairly to Kenyans.

“I assure all Kenyans that I will be professional and shall work towards ensuring a safe and secure environment for Kenyans while respecting their human rights and fundamental freedoms,” Ibrahim said.


He also noted the security challenges the country is facing including robberies, human trafficking, money laundering, graft and terrorism, which he promised to tackle in conjunction with other stakeholders in the criminal justice system.

“I will work with closely with all stakeholders including the judiciary, the ODPP, the correctional facilities, as well as the media in delivering justice to Kenyans firmly and with fairness,” the new DCI boss said.


The new DCI boss shared his mobile phone number after disclosing that he has chosen the open door approach policy and pledged to maintain the same in order to facilitate easy access to him in case Kenyans had urgent security concerns to report.

While welcoming the new director, Chief Justice Hon Martha Koome, acknowledged the enormous responsibilities that come with the office of the Director of Criminal Investigations and pledged her support whenever called upon.


She said that the courts rely on investigations conducted by the Directorate and urged the DCI Director to work closely with other players in the National Council on Administration of Justice, that brings together state and non-state actors from the justice sector in fulfilling his mandate.

Ag Police Inspector General Mr Noor Gabow urged Ibrahim to discharge his duties with fairness and in strict conformity to the law


Also present during the ceremony was the Chairman of the National Police Service Commission Eliud Kinuthia.
