All is set for this year’s Mashujaa Day celebrations at the historic Uhuru Gardens in Nairobi, according to Ministry of Interior Principal Secretary, Dr Karanja Kibicho.

Speaking after touring Uhuru Gardens, Dr Kibicho said more than 20,000 guests were expected to attend the celebration, the first public holiday under President William Ruto.

The PS, who doubles up as the chairman of the National Celebrations Committee, indicated that the government has done all under its power to make it a memorable national fete at the refurbished Uhuru Gardens National Monument and Museum .

“As the National Celebrations Committee, we’ve spared no effort to prepare for this year’s Mashujaa Day Celebrations on Thursday,” Dr Kibicho said on Monday.

This year’s Mashujaa Day celebration will present the first publicly celebrated public holiday to be overseen by the new Kenya Kwanza administration spearheaded by President Ruto.

The Nairobi Regional Commander James Mugera is on Wednesday set to issue further details on the preparations for the Mashujaa Day, which will be held on Thursday October 20.

Mashujaa Day, which is also known as Heroes' Day, is a national day observed on October 20 as a public holiday for Kenyans to collectively honour all those who contributed to the struggle for independence or contributed positively in the post-independence Kenya.

President Uhuru Kenyatta officially opened the 68-acre Uhuru Gardens National Monument and Museum in June 2022 after 21 months of uplifting by a multi-agency committee led by Kenya Defence Forces at a cost of Sh60 billion.
