Police in Nairobi have arrested Tiaty Member of Parliament (MP) William Kamket in connection with the vicious bandit attacks in Kapedo.

Following the arrest on Thursday, police say Kamket is being detained at the Kileleshwa Police Station and is expected to be transferred to Nakuru.

His arrest comes only a day after he led leaders from Baringo and West Pokot Counties in asking President Uhuru to help deescalate ongoing security operations in Kapedo to tame the attacks.

The MPs, who spoke on Wednesday, termed the operation being spearheaded by Interior CS Fred Matiang’i inhumane and urged the government to change tact in containing the banditry.

The leaders blamed the perennial armed attacks on boundaries rows and intense poverty.

This comes after 6 people were killed and many more injured in a shootout between police and suspected bandits in Kapedo on Tuesday night.

The Rift Valley Regional Commander George Natembeya said more than 50 heads of cattle had been stolen during an attack in Arabal by an unknown number of suspected bandits.

On Wednesday, Matiangi assured the government will contain the escalating skirmishes in parts of the borders between Turkana and Baringo counties which he blamed on local politicians.

“It is a clear case of murder. There was no conflict. It was a premeditated ambush that was targeting our deputy director of operations at the General Service Unit. We must stop pretending and put things candidly,” he said.

GSU operation commander Emadau Tebakol is among 21 officers killed in attacks in Turkana.
