The Nairobi County Speaker Ken Ng’ondi has pledged to put political differences aside and work with Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja.

The newly elected speaker said that on Sunday afternoon while speaking in Embakasi where he said they would support Sakaja since he had the people’s mandate to be in office.

“We do not have a choice, the governor was elected by the people of Nairobi, they made a choice to choose Sakaja as the governor. So, we must support him, we don’t have to bring in issues that will hinder service delivery to the Nairobi people,” Ng’ondi said.

Ng’ondi noted his role in uniting both the majority and minority sides of the assembly and ensuring all members’ voices are heard.

“The speaker just presides over the assembly to make sure members articulate issues well in the assembly, and they remain steadfast and within the agenda as spelt in the order paper,” the speaker said.

He also acknowledged that there will be conflicts of interest and differences of opinions in the assembly but vowed to make constitutional rulings.

“I am much alive to the fact that, that is a house of debate and under normal circumstances, there will always be conflicting interests and differences in opinion, but at the end of the day you must make a ruling as prescribed in the constitution and as provided in the standing orders,” he said.

Ng’ondi affirmed his responsibility in giving the members of the County Assembly the opportunity to make favourable decisions for the residents of their wards.
