Siaya Governor James Orengo has assured Siaya residents that nobody will be spared in his fight against graft.
Orengo said that while reacting to an article that appeared in a local daily concerning graft in his county.
The report suggested the county's top officials suspiciously withdrew a sum of Sh400 million just a few days before the recently concluded election.
The Senior Counsel confirmed the reports on the daily via a statement he issued on Wednesday saying they were not just news and as such, justify the steps he has taken towards eradicating graft in Siaya County.
“My attention has been drawn to an article appearing today in the Daily Nation Newspaper concerning suspicious and serious financial impropriety and administrative malpractices in Siaya County. This is not news.,” the statement read

“It justifies the step we have taken to carry out a thorough and comprehensive forensic audit led by a team of experts. This is the only path way towards eradicating endemic and systemic corruption in Siaya.”
Orengo said Siaya County is rotten and the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) should expedite its investigations of corruption cases in the county
“Indeed, without mincing words, the treasury in Siaya is rotten,” he said.
“The public is aware that the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) is also conducting investigations of cases of misappropriation within the County Government. That is the right thing to do and must be expedited.”
Orengo also disclosed that the county has stopped payment of pending bills until verification and confirmation save in cases of essential services and emergencies.
He further said that no procurements are being undertaken nor new contracts awarded until we are done with the application of prompt and effective interventions.
Orengo also directed the Siaya County Treasury not to pay or engage in any financial transactions without my direct authority until advised otherwise.
He assured Siaya residents that nobody will be spared in the current fight against corruption.
“I want to assure the people of Siaya that nothing will be spared and nobody will be spared within the context of a comprehensive and decisive strategy and solution to this problem,” Orengo said.
